problems installing some updates after our new >> SBS2003 in

Postby grestone » June 2nd, 2010, 4:37 pm

I have carried out a fresh install of sbs2003 premium after several of the hard drives started to fail simultaneously on our previous server. The 'new' server is a Dell 2600 Poweredge. I installed the new version of sbs2003 about 3 weeks ago now, & got everything up & running. I successfully installed SBS SP1. There are no errors in the event logs. It has 1GB of memory & seems to work well on that; only 4 users at the moment with 2 more next week, & once I install all the updates I have a further 2GB for it. This weekend was my chosen time for installing Windows 2003 SP2 & any further updates. Win2003 SP2 has installed successfully & I also downloaded and installed the KB updates to sort out the TCP/IP problems caused by the update. I successfully installed 5 more updates via MU, 3 for Windows Server 2003 & 2 for Exchange Server SP2. I am now stuck at KB924667, with 80 'high priority' KBs to install It fails & therefore so do subsequent KBs, if I let it go on. I can see that after I click to get the updates, there is no traffic at all between the MU site & us. Up to this point the MU site had downloaded & installed 2 Exchange server SP2 fixes & 3 Win2003 server fixes. I've checked the event logs and there's nothing. I have run & rerun the SBS BPA & the only reports I get are: OWA update for Exchange Server is not installed Windows SBS 2003 not compatible with Vista/Outlook 2007 Update for daylight saving time not installed ISA Server 2000 installed POP3 connector snapin not updatedPreviously there were 4 critical reports for the TCP/IP issues resulting from the installation of Windows Server 2003 SP2 & as Isay,I fixed them. Can anyone help, please?

When you have an update that gives you trouble you can cancel the

It just says failed, though, on MU, & I can

The error code is 0x80072efd which seems to mean that you can't
establish a connection with the server.

I followed the suggestions in KB885819 but updates are still failing.

It seems odd when MU had already downloaded & successfully installed
WS2003 SP1 and then four or five other KBs.

I'm not sure if I can attach the WindowsUpdate log here? It's too big to
cut & paste.

I generally solve this kind of WU errors changing the MTU at router level
(i.e. once I changed from 1492 to 1470)
